If we told you that Abu Dhabi's first asphalt road only dates back to the 1960s, you probably wouldn't believe it. And we can't blame you: arriving in this pearl of the Emirates today literally means jumping into the future. Towering skyscrapers, shopping centres, glass and steel reigning above everything else, at least in downtown. Still, there is something that reminds you that you're not in yet another western metropolis. Perhaps it's the souq, or the mosque, or perhaps the nature. Not far from the skyscrapers, you can dive into the sandy sea of the islet of Saadiyat, a brand new cultural district which is both residential and tourist, or cool off in modern water parks. And then end your personalised journey in the silent nature of Rub Al Khali, at the gates of the desert, almost on the border with Oman. What are you waiting for? Set off now!
